Koru Art

Some of the Room 2, Karaka, children have been using koru designs to make their family.  They chose the koru size that suited each person depending on their place in the family.  Then they thought of a colour that suited that person.  When we have finished we will share them all.

Wet Day Activity

Day four of rain is tough!  We managed to get in a bike ride and some duck feeding before the rain settled in but it has been a tough few days.

My two are currently bouncing on the trampoline in the rain as they just had to get out and move!

So today, an inside activity.

This is from the Clever Poppy Blog again.

I remember making pom poms out of old wool as a kid and the satisfaction of the end result.

If you have any wool at home, this is the activity for you today!

Paper Dolls

These very cool paper dolls are a free download on the Clever Poppy Blog.  If you have a printer they look like they could be fun!

They come with clothes, both coloured and black and white, so they can be dressed by the children.

The Clever Poppy Blog has lots of cool ideas so have a look around it.

Have fun!

Autumn Art

We are seeing lots of leaves on the ground during our walks and my kids always come home with at least one leaf they MUST keep!

This week we are going to do leaf rubbings with these leaves (idea borrowed from Mr Pearson's distance learning!).

ANZAC Poppy

Today Lottie and I decided to make a poppy for our window to acknowledge that ANZAC Day is coming up this weekend.

Normally our family goes to Marsden Cemetery on ANZAC Day because my grandfather is there.  My parents, siblings, uncles, aunts and cousins all attend the service to remember those that went to war.  Always followed by a cup of tea and cake!

This year we won't be able to go so we thought making a poppy or two would be a good way to remember.

I've added some photos of what we did:
We looked up poppy shapes online.

We got everything we thought we would need.

We drew a poppy using pencil.

 Lottie cut it out.

We used a black pen to draw in the important lines.

We coloured in the middle of the poppy.

We stuck it in our front window.

We watched a video on how to make a poppy (it was very complicated) and it included a great idea - write the name of a solider on your poppy.  It could be someone related to you or a solider you have heard of.  Our poppy is in memory of Gordon Webber.

Happy poppy making!

Collections

Often when we go for a walk Lottie fills my pockets up with things she finds along the way.

Today we had a go at making a creature out of them.

I just started adding parts to see what it became but you could decide on your animal or insect first, and then try and make it.

We might glue ours down or we might just take photos and then create some more!

The start of our collection.  It is MUCH bigger now!

I just made up a creature.

Lottie made an octopus!  Now we can learn a bit more about how many legs an octopus has!

Sprouts

Last week Sam started the children off with our next growing experiment.  They used a sprouting jar and got some quick results.   Today we ...
