What do you want to be when you grow up?

Some of our writer's have been finishing this sentence - When I grow up I want to be...

This video is about someone who followed their dream and now has a job she loves.  It is a pretty cool job!

She also talks about facing challenges and how she overcomes them.  This is showing GRIT!

Enjoy!

Ben has been super busy!

Ben sent me an email today to tell me about what he had been up to.  He typed the whole thing himself!  Well done Ben!

Here are some pictures and his letter.

Thanks Ben!

"Hi Anna, I miss school. I have been doing so well with staying home my mum and dad gave me a spitfire model. We have been going for lots of walks down the railway reserve to the dam. It is my favourite place to go and play at the moment. Mum has been teaching me the days of the week, my favourite day is Fish n Chip Friday. We have been playing lots of family board games, my favourite is chess. We have been lucky to have daddy at home and we are enjoying sitting at the big table and eating dinner as a family and at every meal we ask each other what our favourite part of the day was, I like doing this. I watched red tails it was cool because there was fighter jets in it and they got shot down.
i have been practicing my writing every day.
i helped my daddy make pickle, I got to chop the onion and cucumber, I love baking and cooking with my dad. I will miss him when he goes back to work.
I played hopscotch. we went for a walk to monaco we had to go over a big bridge that went over the motorway there were no cars. Once we got there we could look over at the airport and I saw all the planes lined up. There was fifty hundred planes. (not really but it did look cool) Mum took a photo.
I think that is all, mummy has been spelling out the words and I have been typing this email for you. I cant wait to see you and all my seaview friends again soon.
From ben."

Autumn Art

We are seeing lots of leaves on the ground during our walks and my kids always come home with at least one leaf they MUST keep!

This week we are going to do leaf rubbings with these leaves (idea borrowed from Mr Pearson's distance learning!).

ANZAC Biscuits

Today we made ANZAC biscuits at home.

Baking is a great and delicious way to do some maths.

Lots of measuring and weighing leads to mathematical discussions.  Dissolving the baking soda in hot water is always a good starting point for science experiments as well - What happens if we add different liquids to baking soda?

I haven't included a recipe as you may have one already or find one online.  The one we used today was super sweet so please send me any you find with minimal sugar!

Harry the Dirty Dog

When I was a little girl (a few years ago!) one of my favourite books was Harry the Dirty Dog.  I remember my granny and mum reading it to me - a lot!

Now, my children enjoy listening to it when they visit their granny.

What's your favourite book to read at home?  Do your family have special books that you all read together?

I hope you enjoy my favourite!

ANZAC Poppy

Today Lottie and I decided to make a poppy for our window to acknowledge that ANZAC Day is coming up this weekend.

Normally our family goes to Marsden Cemetery on ANZAC Day because my grandfather is there.  My parents, siblings, uncles, aunts and cousins all attend the service to remember those that went to war.  Always followed by a cup of tea and cake!

This year we won't be able to go so we thought making a poppy or two would be a good way to remember.

I've added some photos of what we did:
We looked up poppy shapes online.

We got everything we thought we would need.

We drew a poppy using pencil.

 Lottie cut it out.

We used a black pen to draw in the important lines.

We coloured in the middle of the poppy.

We stuck it in our front window.

We watched a video on how to make a poppy (it was very complicated) and it included a great idea - write the name of a solider on your poppy.  It could be someone related to you or a solider you have heard of.  Our poppy is in memory of Gordon Webber.

Happy poppy making!

Tialey Checks In

It was lovely to hear from Tialey this morning and get a glimpse of what she's been up to at home.

Everyone is having a busy time at home during our lockdown!

Quick update:  Tialey and her bubble is doing well and coping. We've been busy doing all sorts baking, biking, walking. Helping in the kitchen around the house as well as in the garden. We've also been making cards for our elderly neighbour having gone and done 2 operations within a week. Our cards make her feel better and not so sore. Tialey is missing everyone in Seaview hub but she's enjoying time spent in her bubble.

Check out Zac's skip counting in 2's and his amazing writing!

An update from Daire

Daire's mum sent me this email this morning. Thank you for sharing!

Daire enjoyed listening to the stories, Waiting for the Race, Shoes for the King, and then answering questions on this.  Daire been listening to some cool music on Mama’s phone and he drew a picture to send to Uncle Conal and Aunty Tata to cheer them up in Italy. Daire lost his first tooth and got a visit from the Tooth Fairy!
There is also a picture of us at Elaine Bay with Mamo and Sean Sean (grandparents) taken the week before lockdown.

About to start our reading for the day, and will be trying some phonics this week.

A Game to Play

Yesterday Will and his dad sat down to play a drawing game.  One of them would start drawing a picture and the the other one had to guess what it was as quickly as possible.  They got pretty fast!

Lottie and Will had a go together as well.  Lottie put a tick next to the picture when Will guessed correctly.  There was lots of laughing involved with this game!

Have you made up any games to play while you've been at home?

Sophie's story

Sophie has written a story to share with us. She has worked hard on all her writing goals. Sophie has used 'and' to add more information.

Great writing Sophie :)
